Josephine Alexander specialises in FAMILY Care Proceedings Josephine Alexander was called to the bar in 1994 and has practiced in all aspects of Family law since undertaking pupillage, although developing a particular interest in child care work. She has extensive experience and expertise in care proceedings having worked as in-counsel at a number of local authorities in the South East between 1996 - 2002. These included The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, Surrey County Council, the London Borough of Ealing and the London Borough of Hillingdon. Josephine’s responsibilities as in-house counsel included advising Social Workers on all matters relating to Child Protection and Child Care matters. This included making applications for care and supervision orders, emergency protection orders, contact, child assessment, secure accommodation, recovery, S.8 orders, disclosure of information and other aspects of local authority responsibilities in connection with children and families. Additional in-house responsibilities included being Legal Advisor to a number of Borough’s Adoption Panel advising in relation to the Borough’s Under Eights’ registration and inspection service and in relation to all adult social services work, namely; community care, mental health and asylum and the related issues of human rights. Private Law and Ancillary Relief Since returning to the independent bar in 2002, Josephine has continued to practice in all areas of family work with an emphasis in contact and residence matters. Josephine’s practice also includes a proportion of ancillary relief. IMMIGRATION Having developed an interest in immigration issues several years ago, Josephine has acted in numerous cases in the Immigration Tribunals, involving asylum and human rights claims, claims involving third countries, deportation and bail applications.
