Specialist Areas: Family and Matrimonial Law Sylvia Johnson undertakes all aspects of Family law work, with experience of injunction proceedings, committal hearings, residence and contact proceedings including specific issue orders and parental responsibilities, and ancillary relief where conduct is relevant to the settlement. Children Act and Family Law Act Proceedings • Acted on behalf of mother at the end of care proceedings in Section 34 application by the mother following unsuccessful attempts to obtain direct contact. Human Rights claim mounted on behalf of the mother in respect of Local Authority failure to promote contact even where mother suspected of being mentally ill. • Acted on behalf of mother to oppose temporary leave to remove from jurisdiction in relation to a child in care. Ancillary Relief • Represented Respondent in a case where sexual conduct was in issue and where the Respondent was serving a prison term for indecent assault on his daughter who was under the age of two and downloading child pornography. • Representing Petitioner in case where gross conduct is relevant to her settlement. Conduct involves attempted murder for which the Respondent is serving a prison sentence. Other relevant experience includes cases brought under the Trust of Land and Appointment of Trustee Act and the Inheritance (Children & Dependants) Act. Area of Practice: Public Law Wide ranging experience in Public Law gained while working in-house at two Local Authorities prior to being called to the Bar. This includes a Compulsory Purchase Order in a planning inquiry for the gentrification and regeneration of a town centre. Drafting proofs of evidence for planners in relation to planning enquiries. • Experience in drafting section 106 agreements in relation to planning applications and enforcement notices in relation to planning and development violations. • Advising and drafting particulars of claim in matters involving claims under the Highways Act, Landlord and Tenant Act, and Housing Act.
